NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — An early morning pursuit of an allegedly stolen vehicle ended Sunday when the suspect car crashed and its occupants briefly fled on foot, according to the New Bedford Police Department.
The chase began Sunday morning at approximately 4 a.m. when a New Bedford officer observed a suspicious vehicle allegedly trespassing in “Victory Park” on Brock Avenue.
According to New Bedford Police Department Media Relations Specialist Holly Huntoon, the vehicle fled, driving erratically after being spotted, initiating the pursuit through the city before the suspect vehicle crashed into a parked car near Brooklawn Park.
Three suspects in ski masks and rubber gloves then fled on foot, according to Huntoon.
After a brief foot chase, two of the suspects were taken into custody.
They are identified as Saijah Arnum, 26, of New Bedford and Jozel Grace, 19, of Taunton.
According to Huntoon, a loaded Glock was seized during the arrests, as well as ammunition and a 22-round capacity magazine.
The serial number on the firearm was also defaced, according to Huntoon.
A second firearm, a loaded Sig Sauer, was located later Sunday in a Sylvia Street yard.
Both suspects are charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, and Jozel faces a host of other charges, including including illegal possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of ammunition and possession of a large capacity magazine.
The third suspect has not yet been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
