A New Bedford woman has died after being hit by a car after her vehicle broke down on Route 18.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said Ruby Quiro Santos, 23, of New Bedford was driving north on Route 18 when her 2020 Toyota Camry became disabled in the left lane north of the Hillman Street onramp.
The DA’s office said another vehicle, an Audi with multiple occupants, arrived on scene to help Santos, along with two New Bedford Police Department SUVs with their cruiser lights on.
The DA’s office said as Santos and a woman from the Audi walked to the Audi, a 2018 Honda Accord that was driving north along Route 18 hit the two women, the Audi, and one of the police SUVs.
Massachusetts State Police responded to the crash scene.
All parties involved in the crash were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Santos was pronounced dead on Saturday, Jan. 31. The other woman walking with her is in critical but stable condition, the DA’s office said.
All other parties received minor injuries.
The DA’s office did not have information about the driver of the Honda Accord.
The crash is being investigated by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the DA’s Office along with the Massachusetts State Police.
