Toyota unveils the Century Coupe, a radical two-seat flagship marking Century’s debut as a standalone luxury brand targeting Rolls-Royce
The Toyota Century has long stood as Japan’s quiet symbol of prestige, but its name is about to carry even greater weight. Toyota is preparing to give its most revered nameplate an entirely new chapter of its own.
At the Japan Mobility Show, the company confirmed that Century will no longer be just a model line. It will evolve into a standalone brand positioned against the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Leading this new direction is the upcoming Century Coupe.

Toyota teased the Century Coupe a couple of weeks ago, and, as those teasers indicated, it has a design quite unlike any other model to which the Century nameplate has been applied. Toyota is remaining mum about many essential details, including when it could hit the market and where it will be sold.
The exterior is painted in a gorgeous shade of orange made up of no fewer than 60 layers of paint. Unlike the Century-branded sedans of the past and the current Toyota Century SUV, the Century Coupe is a two-door and seats only two. However, the interior configuration is unlike any other car we’ve seen.
The driver’s seat is separated from the rest of the cabin with a wooden console and via a wall of what appear to be red lasers shining up to the headliner. There’s a futuristic steering wheel, digital instruments, and a lovely seat with a wooden back. Century’s designers have then pushed the passenger seat to the rear of the cabin, making it the perfect solution for any owner who wants to get chauffeured around in maximum comfort.
Elsewhere, the cabin appears to be trimmed in all kinds of luxury materials and even includes a classy analog clock in the center of the dash.
Other Century Models
Presented alongside the Century Coupe are four other Century models. These include two restored Toyota Century sedans, a specially equipped Century SUV, and a GR-branded version of the current sedan.
Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda says that “the Century stands at the pinnacle, a car in a class of its own.” Moving forward, he wants “to cultivate [Century] as a brand that brings the spirit of Japan – the pride of Japan – out into the world.”
