The Kimble County Sheriff's Office and Kimble County Judge Hal Rose have both confirmed to MySA that Saturday night's 20-car pile up on Interstate 10 resulted in one fatality. Eight others were sent to an area hospital with injuries.

Officials have not said what caused the pileup or the severity of the injuries sustained by those taken to the hospital.

All east and westbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Junction, Texas have reopened, according to the Kimble County Sheriff's Office.

Crews have reopened several westbound lanes on Interstate 10 in Junction, Texas, after a 20-car pileup shut down the interstate for several hours late Saturday, January 24, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Those lanes were opened at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, the state agency said.
TxDOT is asking drivers to avoid unnecessary travel while officials work to reopen the rest of I-10 in that area, which remains closed from Mountain Home to Junction.
According to the Kimble County Emergency Operations Center, multiple vehicles — and lithium batteries — involved in the pileup caught fire.

The operations center said multiple people were transported to Kimble Hospital, and another 32 were housed at a shelter overnight.
Officials have not said what caused the pileup or the severity of the injuries sustained by those taken to the hospital.

Authorities first responded to the incident at about 7 p.m. on Saturday night, according to a Facebook post by the Junction Volunteer Fire Department and Kimble Rural Fire Department.
Junction is about 114 miles northwest of San Antonio and is located along I-10 in Kimble County. The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened near mile marker 470, and the interstate in the area has been shut down. Officials are asking drivers to avoid the area and find an alternate route because there will be "significant delays."
The Texas Department of Transportation is also reporting lane closures near the reported pileup on Interstate 10 and on U.S. 290. In a social media post, the state agency said all lanes from of I-10 are closed from mile marker 469 to mile marker 478. On highway 290, lanes are closed from mile marker 470 to mile marker 485.
Authorities did not provide any more details about the traffic incident or say if anyone was injured, but the Texas Hill Country is experiencing icy conditions from the strong winter storm affecting Texas.

The National Weather Service has predicted the region is going to experience a prolonged freeze, and officials have been warning drivers about the dangerous driving conditions because of ice accumulation on roads.
It is currently 21 degrees in Junction.
