The third-generation ES8 from Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) has arrived at hundreds of showrooms, with the SUV (sport utility vehicle) set to make its debut in a few hours.
The first batch of new ES8 display vehicles are now available at over 300 Nio stores in China, the company announced today.
Nio will hold a launch event for the third-generation ES8 in Chengdu, Sichuan, at 7:30 pm Beijing Time in about four hours, focusing on the vehicle’s product and technical highlights. Its official launch will take place at Nio Day 2025 next month.
The SUV, available in six-seat and seven-seat configurations, measures 5,280 mm in length, 2,010 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm.
Its predecessor measured 5,099 mm in length, 1,989 mm in width, and 1,750 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,070 mm.
Due to its larger dimensions, Nio said the new-generation ES8 has been upgraded from a mid-to-large SUV to a large SUV.
The vehicle is built on a 900-volt high-voltage platform, with a maximum voltage of 925 volts. It features a 100-kWh battery pack, supporting a charging rate of up to 5C, and a 3-minute quick battery swap for a fully charged battery pack.
The starting price for the new-generation ES8 under the BaaS (Battery as a Service) battery rental purchase plan will be less than RMB 400,000 ($55,730), Yang Bo, Nio’s head of user operations, hinted today on Weibo.
New ES8 show cars now available at over 300 Nio stores
The previously available ES8 came standard with a 75-kWh battery pack, with a starting price of RMB 498,000, and a starting price of RMB 428,000 under the BaaS plan.
The older ES8 equipped with a 100-kWh battery pack had a starting price of RMB 556,000 including the battery pack, and under the BaaS model, the starting price was also RMB 428,000, with a higher monthly battery rental fee.
Nio reduced the optional cost of the 100-kWh long-range battery pack by RMB 20,000 on August 19, resulting in a price reduction for all long-range versions of the models currently on sale.
The ES8 was not included at the time because its next-generation model was imminent. The move implies that the next-generation ES8 will be cheaper than its predecessor with the 100-kWh battery pack.
