A man in Tamil Nadu, India, recently received quite a shock when a snake emerged from the side mirror of his car while he was driving. As if dealing with other drivers on the road isn’t already enough of a challenge for the average person.
Naturally, since it’s 2025 and everything is captured on video, the man’s startling encounter with the snake while driving his car quickly went viral. The footage began trending on social media, prompting numerous local media outlets to cover the story.
The video, shared on X (Twitter) by @karnatakaportf, came with a warning: “Safety Alert for Drivers!”
“As the cold and rainy season sets in, motorists are urged to be extra cautious before hitting the road,” they wrote. “Always inspect your vehicle thoroughly, especially under the bonnet, wheel arches, and side mirrors, as snakes and other small creatures often seek warmth and shelter inside parked vehicles during this season. A recent incident on the Namakkal–Salem Road has raised serious concern.
“A driver was shocked to discover a snake hidden inside his car’s side mirror while he was on the move. Fortunately, the driver managed to stop safely, but the situation could have turned dangerous,” the warning continued.
“Authorities and wildlife experts are advising drivers to check their vehicles carefully before starting, particularly after long parking hours or in areas surrounded by vegetation. Stay alert, stay safe. A few minutes of precaution can prevent a major scare or accident.”

As of this writing, over 1.1 million people have viewed the video of the snake emerging from the side mirror. Many of those views caused people to shudder with fear, triggering phobias they may or may not have known they had.
Objects in the mirror are [more] poisonous than they appear,” one viewer joked.
That’s not a side mirror, that’s a side terror,” read another comment.
This incident happened with me on a bike,” another viewer shared. “I didn’t dare to touch the bike for more than 10 years.”
India is not for beginners,” someone else joked.
Another person questioned if it was really “so easy” for the snake to get inside the mirror. To answer that question, it appears that it is not. At least it wasn’t for a family in Singapore this past December. They ended up with a snake riding on their car’s windshield after it slithered out of their side mirror.
