Today it was revealed the Aston Martin Vantage S will be the new Official FIA Safety Car of Formula 1. It provides the Brits with a way to finally lead at the front of the grid, parading its sports car in front of the public around the globe.

Expect to see the Vantage S in its new official capacity at the Dutch Grand Prix this weekend as F1 returns after the summer break. It wears the same Podium Green as the Aston Martin F1 cars, showing the connection between them.
Helping the Aston Martin Vantage S fulfill its duties with athletic poise will be the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, which produces 670-horsepower and 590 lb.-ft. of torque. If necessary, it can do 0 to 60 mph in a rapid 3.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 202 mph, so it’s more than up to the task of acting as the safety car.
You might notice the blades protruding from the middle of the hood. They act as heat extractors, channeling the air from the V8 engine, which is in a “hot-V” configuration, out so temperatures remain optimal.
Just to make sure everything works well, officials have outfitted the car not only with a FIA lightbar but also more aero elements. Most prominent among them is the rear deck spoiler, ensuring stability at higher speeds.
“Vantage S represents the peak of performance for the model that is the beating heart of the Aston Martin brand,” said Alex Long, Global Marketing Director at Aston Martin. “With increased power and even greater dynamic prowess, this car was destined to take on the prestigious role as an F1 Safety Car and it will be a source of great pride for our colleagues and our customers to see it leading the pack whenever it is called upon. In terms of brand awareness, nothing can compete with Formula 1 and we are proud to play our part in what we believe is the greatest show on earth.”
