New gates have been installed at the six vehicle entrances of Sunset Park in Las Vegas to keep cars out during overnight hours.

Clark County says the gates will reinforce the hours for when the park is open to the public, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
"Sunset Park is the crown jewel of the County’s park portfolio, having been enjoyed by generations of residents," Commissioner Jim Gibson said in a statement. "These new gates will help to ensure that activities that challenge the safety of the park in the overnight hours are mitigated as much as possible and represent another resource the County has put in place to increase park safety for the betterment of our community."

The county said it began closing restrooms in the overnight hours to prevent vandalism. Police patrols have also increased, and social service outreach helps those who might be in need of housing or other resources.
A ban on camping went into effect in the county earlier this year. It prohibits camping in places such as parks, trails, underpasses, washes and tunnels.
Clark County says enforcement includes attempts to offer resources as a first step, but additional penalties could be levied against those not in compliance.
