For years, a battle over vehicle inspections has raged in several states, including here in Maine.
Now, it looks like one of our neighbors has made the decision to ditch annual vehicle inspections.
According to an article on the WMTW website, as of this month, New Hampshire will no longer require vehicles to have a safety inspection done on an annual basis.
New Hampshire republicans were largely to thank for the repeal of the inspection requirement.  Many said it was a "scam" put in place by the state.  The cost of an inspection & sticker in New Hampshire was a whopping $50.
Proponents of the end of inspections are concerned that it will lead to less safety on the roads in the Live Free Or Die state.
For example, there are concerns that, due to the cost of tires, people will run them until they are down to the belt if they are not required to replace them when the tread has worn down to a certain point.
However, despite the lack of an annual inspection, vehicle owners will still be responsible for keeping them in safe working order.  And, police will be able to issue tickets to those who are operating what are considered unsafe vehicles.
Now that New Hampshire has ended vehicle inspections, do you think we'll see another attempt to end inspections in Maine?
