Kewanee’s newest business, the D’Luxe Auto Wash, opened this week behind the Community State Bank building on Tenney Street.
The car wash, which can be entered off McClure Street just west of Tenney, is a project of K-Town Real Estate. Owners are Chris Roginski, John Cernovich and Ben and Marshall Nelson.
As the name implies, D’Luxe is totally automated. Customers drive into the wash lane and signs light up to give instructions on how to proceed through the wash process.
Customers purchase memberships that are good for a month. During that month, they may run their vehicle through the wash once a day for as many days as they like, Roginski said.
When a customer drives up to the wash bay for the first time, a photo of the vehicle’s license plate is taken, and the customer scans a credit or debit card. On subsequent visits, the car wash’s computer recognizes the license plate and sends the customer in for the wash.
There are three levels of service:
— Basic service includes underbody wash, two pre-soaks, high-pressure wash, spot-free rinse and “turbo blowers” to dry the vehicle after it has been washed.
— “Super” service adds rust inhibitor and triple foam,
— With the “Ultimate Ceramic” level, the vehicle also gets clear coat and “Ceramic” treatment.
Monthly fees range from $34.99 to $39.99.
There are also vacuum cleaners outside the building.
Memberships renew automatically, and Roginski said a customer can go to a website to cancel a membership at any time.
The car wash accommodates cars and trucks up to a certain size.
Roginski said the car wash project, which included demolishing the former bowling alley and office complex, and asphalt resurfacing of the area around the car wash building, cost around $2.1 million. More than $1.3 million of that was for the electronics, pipes, tanks and computers that that make the car wash run, he said.
When the car wash project was announced early this year, Roginski said there was a target date of late April for opening the facility. But “Illinois weather” forced several delays in construction, he said.
