The newly formed Clean Car Coalition now has 13 participating states, including New Jersey.
The coalition was formed in May with 11 participating states. This month Wisconsin and Hawaii joined.

The coalition’s purpose is to “develop solutions that make cleaner vehicles more affordable and accessible to all Americans who want them, including by reducing cost barriers, increasing availability of options and expanding accessible charging and fueling infrastructure at home and in our communities.”

The coalition also seeks to protect the right of states to set transportation policy as federal policy turns away from clean energy measures.
All of the 13 participating states have Democratic governors. In the country as a whole, 23 states have governors who are Democrats and 27 have Republican governors.
The coalition is part of the U S. Climate Alliance, which has 24 governors, including Phil Murphy, who “have pledged to collectively reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 26%-28% by 2025, 50%-52% by 2030, and 61%-66% by 2035, all below 2005 levels, and collectively achieve overall net-zero greenhouse gas emissions as soon as practicable, and no later than 2050.”
Of the 24 governors in the Alliance, 21 are Democrats, one is a Republican, Gov. Phil Scott of Vermont, and two are from Guam and Puerto Rico. The two states with Democratic governors who are not part of the Alliance are Kansas and Kentucky.
