Stock car racing has long been at the heart of America’s racing landscape (and even politics), and the new series hopes to capture the “essence” of the sport, per a recent press release. “We’re bringing stock car racing back to its roots,” IHRA owner Darryl Cuttell said.
With NASCAR currently embroiled in a nasty lawsuit from Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s 23XI Racing (alongside Front Row Motorsports), the new circuit may provide motorsport fans with some of the local, no-nonsense flavor the sport has lacked in recent years.
The IHRA Stock Series will offer a $2 million purse for the winner of eight races set next year from March (at Pulaski Motorports Park in Virginia) to October (at Memphis Motorsports Park in Tennessee).
The circuit is prioritizing five core tenets, per the press release: 1) a cost-effective structure, 2) “fair rules,” 3) a “welcoming entry point, 4) a “sustainable pathway” for new teams, and 5) a “robust, live broadcasting platform” (still to be announced).

Races will also be held at the Cordele Speedway in Georgia (April 18), at Newport Speedway in Tennessee (May 30), at the Anderson Motor Speedway in South Carolina (June 27), and at the Salem Speedway in Indiana (August 22. Newport and Pulaski both receive two races.
“This is just the beginning,” said Tim Horton, the IHRA Stock Car Series Director. “We’re creating a modern motorsports organization with the heart of grassroots racing—and the Stock Car Series is a perfect reflection of what the new IHRA stands for.”

“From the top down, we’re racers — not MBA grads. We understand the challenges today’s racers face, and every decision we make puts racers and fans ahead of profits.”
NASCAR fans celebrated the news on Reddit. “Steve Phelps and Steve O’Donnell must be furious right now,” one fan wrote. Many commented on how the dilapidated Memphis track will hold up. “Memphis?? How??” one said.
