The new generation Toyota Hilux lifestyle pick-up has received a perfect 5-star crash test rating by Australia-NCAP (New Car Assessment Program). The SUV was introduced in New Zealand in November 2025 and Australia in December 2025. This ANCAP safety rating applies to all variants excluding the Rugged X which is unrated.

The 2025 Toyota Hilux pickup truck scored 33.96 points out of the maximum 40 points for adult occupant protection and 44 out of 49 points for child occupant protection. The lifestyle pickup offered adequate protection to the driver’s chest and lower legs in the frontal offset test, while the other body parts showed good protection. It offers good protection to all body parts of the front passenger.

Toyota Hilux crash test rating

Full Width Frontal Test – the Hilux showed marginal protection to the driver’s neck. It provides adequate protection for the neck and chest of the rear passenger.

Side Impact Test – the Hilux showed good protection for all the critical body parts of the driver. In the oblique pole test, the pickup truck offers adequate protection to the driver’s chest. All other body parts showed good protection in the pole test.

– The lifestyle pick-up offered good protection for the head of both front seat occupants in the side impact test.
– The Hilux provided good protection to 10-year-old and 6-year-old dummies in the frontal offset and side impact tests.
– The bonnet and windscreen provided good and adequate protection for the head of a pedestrian.

The tested model was equipped with dual frontal, side chest-protecting and side head-protecting airbags, and a driver's knee airbag as standard. It also has a centre airbag, which provides added protection for front seat occupants from side impact crashers. The Hilux pickup gets autonomous emergency braking, lane support system and an advanced speed assistance system (SAS) with speed sign recognition as standard.

2025 Toyota Hilux ADAS Test

In the crash test, the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system was found working fine. The system was capable of detecting and reacting to road users, such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
