SEATTLE — The Seattle Police Department (SPD) released new video Monday of a man in a stolen car crashing through a safety gate and jumping the partially open University Bridge to escape officers during a chase.
At around 12:20 p.m. on Sept. 17, officers tried to stop a car with a stolen license plate near 10th Ave E and East Boston Street, according to SPD. An officer tried to follow the driver through residential streets, but lost sight of the car.

Shortly after, officers saw the car stopped in traffic on Eastlake Avenue East near the University Bridge, which was lowering.
As officers prepared to "make a high-risk stop," the car swerved into oncoming traffic, broke through a safety gate, and sped onto the partially raised bridge. The car then jumped the gap, went airborne, then landed on the other side of the bridge and continued north.
Officers later found the empty car near Pasadena Place East in the University District. SPD said the vehicle was severely damaged from the bridge jump, including a large hole in its windshield.
No one has been arrested as police continue to investigate.
