The all-new Elgrand will be sold exclusively with Nissan’s 1.5-liter e-POWER hybrid system
Nissan may be in the midst of significant financial woes, but it’s managed to develop an all-new fourth-generation Elgrand, which it presented at the Japan Mobility Show ahead of a launch next summer. Complete with a design inspired by the 2023 Hyper Tourer Concept, it looks far more modern than the current model, which has been on sale since 2010.
Visually, the new Elgrand shares little in common with the outgoing model, adopting Nissan’s ‘Timeless Japanese Futurism’ design language, therefore sharing some similarities with some other current Nissan models. Only time will tell if customers fall for the striking new looks, but there’s certainly no doubt that it will stand out on the road.

The front of the new Elgrand is particularly striking. Its fascia is dominated by over a dozen small LEDs that are neatly incorporated into the pixelated grille, combining black and body-colored elements. It’s a similar story at the rear, which includes a complex array of LEDs and an intriguing wedge-shaped tailgate.
The Cabin
Of course, this being an Elgrand, it’s the overhauled interior that’s perhaps the highlight. Nissan has added an all-new steering wheel to the MPV, wrapped in two-tone leather and plenty of physical buttons. It also includes a pair of 14.3-inch displays on the dashboard and an all-new center console.
Nissan will sell the new model with a 22-speaker audio system, which includes large Bose speakers in both front headrests. It also rocks proper lounge chairs in the second row with tilting functions and power-operated footrests.
There’s also a new powertrain for the MPV. It will be sold exclusively with Nissan’s third-generation e-POWER hybrid system that includes a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor. Nissan hasn’t released technical specifications but notes the Elgrand will be the first model in its global line-up to use its updated e-4ORCE electric four-wheel drive system. The setup allows torque from the rear electric motor to suppress vehicle pitching during acceleration and deceleration.
The fourth-generation model will also hit the market with the latest iteration of Nissan’s ProPILOT system, which supports hands-off operation at speeds below 50 km/h (31 mph). It will also be available with ProPILOT 2.0 for hands-free highway driving and lane change assistance.
