It’s a nightmare that would hit home with anyone who bicycles on New York City streets.
Authorities are investigating after a 26-year-old Queens man on a bicycle smashed into an open BMW door Monday evening and died.
The driver had parked near 108th Street and 38th Avenue around 6:30 p.m and opened the door to get out of his vehicle. At the same time, the 26-year-old bicyclist, identified as Cristian Villafuerte Vazquez, was riding north on 108th Street. He hit the open door and sustained severe head trauma.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The BMW driver stayed at the scene and wasn’t hurt.
No charges have been filed at this time.
