Police say the vehicle rammed a police car and was driven towards two officers. (ABC News)
Police fired at a four-wheel drive, which was allegedly driven at two officers on Thursday night.
Officers had followed a vehicle with stolen plates at Dandenong in the city's south-east.
Two men, aged 18 and 38, were arrested.
Police fired shots at a vehicle they said rammed a police car outside a motel in Melbourne's south-east on Thursday night.
Victoria Police said officers spotted a four-wheel drive with stolen plates travelling on the Princes Highway at Dandenong about 8:05pm.
Officers followed the vehicle before it came to a stop outside a motel.
The vehicle allegedly rammed a police van as it pulled up next to it.
Two officers got out of the van, and the four-wheel drive driver then allegedly drove the vehicle towards them at speed.
Police fired two shots, striking the vehicle's chassis.

The vehicle stopped in the motel's driveway, and the two occupants were uninjured.
An 18-year-old man from Seaford and a 38-year-old man from South Melbourne were taken into custody and will be interviewed.
One officer was taken to hospital with minor head injuries. 
The 18-year-old man has been charged with offences including aggravated intentional exposure of an emergency worker, theft of a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, possessing a prohibited weapon, unlicensed driving and dangerous driving.
He'll face Melbourne Magistrate's Court today.
The 38-year-old man has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possessing a drug of dependence, handling stolen goods and possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of crime.
He's been bailed to appear before Dandenong Magistrate's Court on June 5.

Police established a crime scene at the motel and have asked anyone with footage or information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The Professional Standards Command will oversee the investigation, which Victoria Police said is standard practice when a police firearm is discharged.
