JEFFERSON CITY — One person died after a 57-year-old man crashed into a Jefferson City memory care facility around 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, according to a Jefferson City Police Department news release.
The investigation revealed the vehicle was headed eastbound in the 3400 block of North Ten Mile Drive. The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and into the parking lot of Westbrook Terrace Memory Care, according to the news release.
Pieces of the car were still strewn across the grass and parking lot Friday. Bricks were knocked loose from the wall. Tire marks streaked the pavement, and sand bags held down a temporary stop sign on the corner from where the car came in.
Westbrook Terrace Memory Care is owned by Americare, a senior living company.
The driver lost control of his vehicle, leading to the crash, according to an Americare news release.
The vehicle had then crashed into the northwest corner of the memory care facility, according to the police news release.
The victim was inside a bedroom in the facility when the crash happened. The victim involved in the crash sustained fatal injuries, according to the police news release.
No other residents were injured in the crash, according to the Americare news release.

Fire personnel used specialized shoring equipment to ensure the stability of the structure until repairs can be made. They then stayed while permanent reinforcements were installed, according to an Americare news release.
The 57-year-old man sustained minor injuries and was transported by EMS for further evaluation.
The crash is currently under criminal investigation by the Jefferson City Police Department’s Traffic Unit.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services was notified of the incident, according to the Americare news release.
No charges have been filed, and the identity of the resident who died has not been released.
Westbrook Terrace Memory Care is licensed as a 25-bed memory care assisted living facility by the state of Missouri, according to the Americare news release.
