One person has died and two people are facing charges after a crash involving multiple cars on Interstate 40 east bound in Johnston County closed the roadway.
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. on Thursday near Exit 312 on NC-42 in Clayton, where NC state troopers said Cheryl Elaine Boesel died.
According to the Highway Patrol, troopers said Boesel was attempting to slow down while driving along I-40 East when she was hit from behind by Scott Faircloth, driving a red F-150. Troopers said Faircloth then swerved off the road to the right shoulder.
Immediately after, troopers said Miriam Biviano, driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee, also hit Boesel’s car from behind. 
Both Faircloth and Biviano are facing charges in relation to the crash. 
Faircloth is being charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed. Biviano has also been charged with failure to reduce speed and driving without a license.
