Bleckley County Sheriff Daniel Cape confirmed the crash's fatality with WGXA on Friday morning. The sheriff's office said deputies, fire crews and EMS were all on the scene of the multi-car accident involving semi-trucks in the eastbound lanes of I-16 near the Twiggs and Bleckley County line.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, three commercial vehicles and one pickup truck collided just before 9 a.m.
The crash investigation revealed that when two Freightliner box-style trucks were stopped behind a Chevrolet Silverado pulling a utility trailer from previous traffic, a Kenworth tractor-trailer was following too closely and struck the Freightliner, pushing it into the other Frieghtliner then into the Chevrolet truck.

The Kenworth overturned off the roadway, the first Freightliner overturned into the median, while the other struck the cable barriers, and the pickup truck and its trailer were pushed into the roadway.
The vehicles and debris blocked both lanes of I-16 east, closing the roadway for an estimated five hours. One person died at the scene, while two others were seriously injured and two more complained of minor injuries, according to GSP.
The crash remains under investigation.
