State Troopers identified the person that died after being hit by a car on Thursday morning in Johnston County.
Troopers said Dana Massello was walking on NC-222, just north of NC-42 around 6 a.m. when they were hit by a white Ford Escape.
The crash was reported before 6:30 a.m. near Raper Road in Middlesex.
After the crash, troopers said the driver pulled off the roadway and onto the right shoulder. No charges have been filed.
Officials have not released the name of the driver.
WRAL’s Sky 5 was at the scene by 7 a.m. Video showed the road completely blocked off.
An ambulance was on the scene, and it appeared authorities were examining evidence on the roadway.
The road reopened by 8:30 a.m.
