The school day at Panther Creek High School begins around 7 a.m.
A sedan parked outside the school had visible damage to its front windshield, and multiple police officers were on site.
Police said the crash caused some delays around the school and urged students, pedestrians and drivers to use caution in the area.
The student, who was not using a crosswalk, was transported to the hospital as a precaution. The driver was not injured, police said. According to police, the student is expected to be okay.
Police said no charges would be filed because the student was at fault.
Many parents, however, said the closest crosswalk to the school is 800 feet down the road, adding that it needs to change.
“I know my kids don’t uss all the crosswalks all the time, even though we asked them to,” said Tim Saguinsin. “When I heard somebody got hit, I thought it was my kids. I think we need to figure out a better way for them to cross the street.”
The district sent out notices to families reminding them to drive safely and be aware of their surroundings, but parents who live there said the’ve seen this coming, calling a 45 mph speed limit and the lack of safety features a recipie for disaster.
“I’d like to see a crosswalk where the child was hit today, that would be a better way of doing it, or maybe a light,” Saguinsin said.
WRAL News reached out to both the Town of Cary and NCDOT asking if there were any plans for improvements on McCrimmon Parkway. As of Tuesday evening, neither have responded.
