Gardai have issued an appeal to the public after a man was killed in a road traffic collision in Co Carlow.
Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene following reports that a car had struck a pedestrian on the R703 in Ballyroughan Big in Borris at approximately 4.30pm on Saturday.
Despite the best efforts of the medical personnel, the pedestrian, a man aged in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Coroner has been notified and a post mortem examination will be carried out in due course.
The driver of the car, a woman aged in her 60s, was uninjured.
Gardai have said the road will remain closed overnight to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a technical examination of the scene.
Traffic diversions are in place and motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible.
Gardai have launched an investigation into the fatal collision and have urged anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
A garda spokesperson said in a statement: "Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the R703 in Ballyroughan Big, Borris, Co. Carlow this afternoon Saturday 1st November, 2025 at 4.30pm.
"The collision occurred after a car struck a pedestrian at Ballyroughan Big, Co. Carlow.
"The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Coroner has been notified and a post mortem examination will take place in due course.
"The driver of the car, a woman in her 60s, was uninjured.

"The road remains closed overnight, which is preserved pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Traffic diversions are in place.
"Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Carlow Garda Station on 059 913 6620, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
"Investigations ongoing."
