Calgary police say the crash occurred around 9:45 p.m., roughly 500 metres north of the Stoney Trail and Macleod Trail SE intersection.
According to investigators, a 2004 Honda Civic was heading northbound on Macleod Trail when it hit a pedestrian crossing the highway on foot from east to west.
The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, died at the scene. The driver stayed behind and was not injured.
Northbound Macleod Trail was closed between Stoney Trail and 162 Avenue SW while Calgary police investigated. The road reopened shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday morning.
