A pensioner has been banned from driving after he knocked over a woman in a supermarket car park.
The accident occurred at about 10am on May 9 when Anthony Lawson, 76, was driving his Jaguar slowly across the Sainsbury’s car park in Northallerton.

The victim was walking across the car park, York magistrates heard.
As she neared the trolley store, she was hit from behind by the pensioner’s vehicle and knocked to the ground, said prosecutor Kathryn Walters.
The woman was laid out on the ground in “agonising pain, especially in the ankle” as people rushed to help, Ms Walters said.

“She noticed the vehicle that hit her was a Jaguar.
“She didn’t see the driver. She heard multiple voices from people who were assisting her.”
An ambulance took her to hospital where she was treated for a broken right foot, a sprained left foot and a badly bruised thigh.

She also suffered bruising over her body.

CCTV footage of the incident showed Lawson’s vehicle driving slowly behind the woman for at least six seconds in the moments before the collision.
On the video footage, the woman can be heard telling officers: “Apparently, the guy was behind me. I don’t know. I’ve no idea what’s happened here.”

She had to wear a supportive medical boot after being discharged from hospital and at the time of her statement she had been referred to a fracture clinic and was due to have orthopaedic surgery.
She said she was “seriously shaken” by the incident which made her terrified of walking in and around the town, especially in car parks.
Lawson, of Front Street, Appleton Wiske, appeared for sentence today after he pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving.
His solicitor Walid Nane said that Lawson, who was a widow, had led a blame-free life and had a clean driving licence before the incident in May.
“He understands that his driving was careless,” added Mr Nane.
“He’s been driving for over 50 years, and this is the first serious incident that has befallen him and he’s really sad that this has happened.”
District judge Adrian Lower told Lawson: “It was an accident, a momentary lapse, but the lady is there to be seen as I have seen, and you have seen, on CCTV from the car park.
“This is completely out of character for you. You have never been before the courts and you have a previously clean licence.”
Lawson was fined £400 and ordered to pay £85 costs, along with a £160 victim surcharge.
He was banned from driving for 12 months.
