Greenwich police said a victim was injured after interrupting a car theft on Tuesday morning.
GREENWICH — A suspect in a local car theft that left a person wounded from gunfire early Tuesday has been apprehended in Bridgeport, police say.
Greenwich police said the victim sustained non-life-threatening after they "interrupted the theft in process" just before 5 a.m. in the west side of town.

"Witnesses in the area reported hearing what they believed to be a gunshot," police said. "While the victim’s injuries are consistent with shrapnel from a discharged firearm, no direct gunshot wound was identified."
Police said the suspect and the car were later located in Bridgeport. Police said the vehicle had a bullet casing inside it when detectives searched it.
Police did not immediately release the identity of the suspect or the charges they are facing.
There is no evidence of any threat to the community, police said, and the theft remains under investigation.

"The Greenwich Police Department strongly advises residents not to confront individuals suspected of committing a crime," police said. "If you observe suspicious activity or have concerns, please call 911 immediately."
