The GT trims of Brazil’s 208 hatchback and 2008 SUV now feature Fiat’s T200 hybrid powertrain
Peugeot is giving its compact models in Brazil a new twist by tapping into the deep Stellantis parts bin. With so many brands under its umbrella, the group can shuffle engines and tech between marques to keep costs down, and this time it means the 208 GT and 2008 GT are getting Fiat-sourced mild-hybrid powertrains tailored for the local market.
Under the hood
In Europe, the subcompact hatchback and its SUV sibling are sold with a 48V mild-hybrid 1.2-liter three-cylinder. Brazil, however, has different needs. Flex-fuel capability is a must in the region, so Peugeot swapped in Fiat’s T200 unit, a smaller engine paired with 12V mild-hybrid tech.

The setup combines a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder, an electric motor-generator, and a 12V lithium-ion battery pack. It can run on both gasoline and ethanol, producing up to 128 hp (96 kW / 130 PS) and 200 Nm (147.5 lb-ft) of torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels exclusively through a CVT automatic.
According to Stellantis, the mild electrification results in 10% lower fuel consumption and 8% lower CO2 emissions in the urban cycle. The same “bio-hybrid” setup is used on the Fiat Pulse and Fastback crossovers since last year.
Design and Trims
In Brazil, the GT versions of the 208 and 2008 receive this new powertrain along with a few visual cues to set them apart. The hatchback sports a larger rear spoiler and gloss black mirrors, while the SUV gets a two-tone finish and a standard panoramic sunroof. Both roll on 17-inch diamond-cut alloys, wear GT badges, and carry “Hybrid Turbo 200” lettering on the tailgate.

Inside, the GT variants feature a leather-wrapped steering wheel with contrasting stitching, aluminum sport pedals, and carbon-style trim. Equipment includes a 10-inch digital instrument cluster with 3D graphics showing information about the hybrid system, a 10.3-inch infotainment display, and an ADAS suite.
Pricing in Brazil
The new variants are already available to order in Brazil. The Peugeot 208 GT is priced at R$126,990 ($23,400), while the 2008 GT costs R$162,990 ($30,100). Given the market-specific nature of the bio-hybrid powertrain, we don’t expect the French brand to offer them outside South America.
