A man was taken to hospital after being struck by a car. Emergency services were called to King Street in St Helens at around 2.05pm today, Wednesday, September 10.
The crash involved a Renault Trafic and a male pedestrian. The pedestrian has been taken to hospital for assessment, police said.
King Street remains closed in both directions. Motorists are asked to avoid the area where possible while emergency services deal with the incident.
Traffic alert site Inrix says: "A570 Duke Street in both directions closed, slow traffic due to accident between A58 Linkway West (Tesco/Cineworld Traffic Lights) and A571 College Street."
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that emergency services are in St Helens after a serious road collision this afternoon, Wednesday 10 September.
"At around 2.05pm, we were called to King Street to reports of a collision involving a Renault Trafic and a male pedestrian. The pedestrian has been taken to hospital for assessment.
"King Street is now closed in both directions. Please avoid the area where possible and thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident."
