A Rockledge Police Department school crossing guard is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in a school zone early Thursday, Feb. 5.
The incident happened about 7:30 a.m. as the unidentified crossing guard, a woman, was directing traffic for students near Golfview Elementary School on South Fiske Boulevard.
The crossing guard was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne for further treatment, police reported.
“At this time, the Department is focused on our employee’s recovery and assisting their family,” the police department said in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon.
Rockledge police did not release any further details on the crash, including the identity of the driver who remained at the scene. No students were injured.
An investigation is ongoing.
