Police say enquiries are ongoing after a vehicle ended up in the river at Berriedale Water yesterday.
The driver, a 55-year-old woman, understood to holidaying in the area, had to be airlifted to hospital in Inverness to receive treatment for serious injuries, police say.
Emergency services were called to the scene just before 5pm on Monday October 13 after the car was found in the water just off Mill Road, near Berriedale.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.50pm on Monday, October 13, 2025, we were called to a single vehicle crash on Mill Road, Berriedale.
“Emergency services attended and the driver, a 55-year-old woman, was taken by air ambulance to Raigmore Hospital with serious injuries.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
A Scottish Fire & Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson said: “We responded to an incident on Mill Road, Berriedale, at 5.08pm on Monday, October 13.
“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to assist emergency service partners. Crews ensured the area was safe before leaving the area at approximately 7.12pm.”
The car was recovered from the water with the aid of a crane earlier today.
Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) has been contacted for comment.
