Police are investigating a shooting and car crash in Epping, in Melbourne's north.
A man was found inside the vehicle with gunshot wounds and a woman suffered life-threatening injuries.
A burnt-out car was found nearby but police do not know if it is linked.
Police are investigating a shooting and car crash in Melbourne's north that has left two people in hospital.
Emergency services were called to the Hume Freeway at Epping about 9:30pm after a car and a truck collided near the Cooper Street exit ramp.
A 23-year-old man was found in the car with gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
A second occupant, an 18-year-old woman, suffered life-threatening injuries from the car crash.
Police have set up a crime scene at the site of the incident. (ABC News)
The driver of the truck was not hurt and remained at the scene. 
Investigators do not believe he had any involvement in the shooting of the man in the car.
Another vehicle was found on fire a short distance away in Cooper Street and police are trying to establish if it is linked to the shooting and collision.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be established and the investigation is ongoing.
Detectives have established a significant crime scene at the site.
