MALBA, Queens (WABC) — From dangerous donuts to arson of a neighborhood security guard's car, one neighborhood in Malba, Queens, near Whitestone, is feeling the after effects of Sunday morning's aggressive car meetup.
Now, police have released new images of suspects in connection with an assault on a homeowner during the chaotic event
The homeowner's arm is in a sling after getting attacked while on his front lawn by at least five to ten of the 100 street takeover participants and onlookers. He suffered a fractured shoulder, fractured ribs and a fractured bone in his face.
"There was probably four to five cars in front of my house with multiple kids, all starting to walk on the property and on the grass and what have you, and they were congregating," he said.
After asking the group to leave, he says they started to surround him.
"I was trying to watch my back because I knew there was people behind me, and the next thing I knew… all of a sudden they just stopped," he adds.
Other neighbors are deeply disturbed.
"My friend got hurt. He's the one that lives down there … He got beat up pretty bad and it's terrible. We don't need that in this neighborhood," said Larry Rusch.
The quiet, upscale community was flooded by young strangers in a matter of minutes.
"One guy was carrying a big, big black flag with white writing on it and said we're from the Bronx and this is how we do things in the Bronx," said councilwoman Vickie Paladino.
As for the injured neighbor, he says the police response was too slow.
"I have great respect, but unfortunately someone dropped the ball," he says.
NYPD detectives have not yet made any arrests.
