Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was the grandson of the automaker’s founder and a well-regarded car designer in his own right, credited with shaping the first 911. Now F.A. Porsche has a new 911 named in his honor that was just unveiled by the marque on Thursday.

The 911 GT3 90 F.A. Porsche will be limited to just 90 examples, the company said, each produced by Sonderwunsch Manufaktur, the automaker’s unit for custom vehicles. The new auto is painted in F.A. Green, which was inspired by the color F.A. Porsche had on his personal 911, called Oak Green. The wheels are painted Satin Black, and in the middle, on the lock hubs, there is a vintage Porsche crest.

On the inside, there is a grid-weave fabric that looks a lot like F.A. Porsche’s favorite sports coat. A clock inspired by the Chronograph 1, itself created for the car designer, sits atop the instrument cluster. The shift lever has a walnut handle. F.A. Porsche’s signature is also seen on a plaque inside, along with a silhouette of the first 911.
Such details undoubtedly would’ve mattered to F.A. Porsche, who founded Porsche Design in addition to, as we mentioned, shaping cars like the original 911 and the Porsche 904.

WATCH

The 911 GT3 90 F.A. Porsche is based on the 911 GT3 with Touring Package, which starts at $230,500. The new car, though, will set you back considerably more, priced at $387,000. Like other 911 GT3s with Touring Package, the 911 GT3 90 F.A. Porsche is powered by a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine making 502 horsepower.
The number of F.A. Porsche variants will be capped at 90, and that number is no accident, as Thursday would’ve been the creative’s 90th birthday. One of those 90 has been reserved for Mark Porsche, F.A. Porsche’s son. Production of the model will start later next year, after buyers have a chance to further customize their cars.
“When you consider the function of a product, in most cases the form follows suit automatically,” F.A. Porsche liked to say, and, indeed, the 911 has been the embodiment of that.
