German automaker Porsche has unveiled its new 911 GT3 R customer race car and 911 Cup challenger for its various Carrera Cup championships.
Based on the 992.2 generation of the Porsche 911 road car, the new models will make their on-track debut in 2026.
Updates to the GT3 R, which saw 106 units delivered to customer teams across the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), Intercontinental GT Challenge, focused on the optimization of the car’s suspension and aerodynamics to produce more balanced handling and improved drivability, the manufacturer said. Customer teams can also choose from a range of special equipment options that are tailored to the demands of a specific GT3 series.
The 4.2-L flat-six engine, which delivers up to 557 hp depending on its Balance of Performance (BoP) classification, and the drivetrain of the current 911 GT3 R remain largely unchanged.
The 911 Cup is largely derived from the road-approved 911 GT models and is produced alongside the series-production cars at Porsche’s main plant. It will be powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-L six-cylinder boxer engine now delivers an increased output of 512 hp.
Redesigned elements include new bodywork for improved aerodynamics, upgraded engine and drivetrain components for increased power and performance, an overhauled brake system that improves durability and extended service life for individual brake components, an updated steering wheel and central control panel in the cockpit and new electronics systems to improve drivability and safety elements.
