Fergus Falls, MN – The race official hurt at the WISSOTA 100 races on Wednesday night (September 10) has died of his injuries.
WISSOTA Auto Racing has confirmed the news that WISSOTA Board Member and I-94 EMR Speedway Staff Member Scott Engfer was killed in the tragic accident.
Fergus Falls Police say that at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, 68-year-old Engfer entered the I-94 EMR Speedway racetrack on an ATV while a race was actively occurring and was struck by a race car. Life saving measures were administered on site and Engfer was transported to the Lake Region Healthcare emergency room. Police say he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
WISSOTA Auto Racing said in a statement, “All of us at WISSOTA are heartbroken and devastated by the tragic accident that claimed the life of WISSOTA Board Member, I-94 EMR Speedway Staff Member and friend Scott Engfer. We offer our sincere condolences to Deb, the Engfer family, all of Scott’s friends, colleagues, and acquaintances during this unimaginably difficult time as we all grieve this painful loss. Times like these remind us how precious life is. We ask that you please respect the privacy of the family at this time and offer your support in any way you can.”
An investigation is ongoing, and the Minnesota OSHA compliance office has been notified of the incident.
The Fergus Falls Police Department was assisted by Ringdahl Ambulance and the Fergus Falls Fire Department during this incident.
