Renault is preparing to auction off a significant portion of its historic vehicle collection as part of a major reshaping effort before opening a new museum near Paris.

The French automaker announced that approximately 100 vehicles will be offered at auction on Dec. 7, 2025, through Artcurial. The sale will include both road-going classics and competition machines, with about two dozen race cars on the docket. Among the highlights are a 1983 RE40 Formula One chassis, a 1975 Alpine A442 prototype, a Renault-Lotus 95T and a Renault RE30 B9.
In addition to the vehicles, Renault says the auction will feature around 100 museum exhibits such as engines, scale models and design mockups, offering collectors a chance to acquire unique pieces of the brand’s history.
The restructuring comes as Renault prepares to open a new museum in the Flins-sur-Seine commune, a site long associated with its manufacturing heritage. The facility, scheduled to open in 2027, will showcase the company’s legacy dating back to 1898. It will display a curated selection of vehicles, keeping only one representative example of each model, although multiple versions of significant cars will still be featured.
The Flins-sur-Seine plant, which produced well-known Renault models such as the Dauphine, Renault 5 and several generations of the Clio, provides a symbolic backdrop for the collection’s next chapter. While the museum remains under construction, the auction will take place at the same location.
By parting with duplicates and select competition cars, Renault aims to streamline its historical lineup while giving enthusiasts and collectors the rare opportunity to acquire genuine pieces of French automotive history.
