I don’t know how we missed these tipping points here for years, but I’ll take the news now. Check them out: ICE car sales peaked in China in 2017✅ and worldwide in 2018✅; more than ½ of new cars sold in China are EVs✅. Even as China remains the biggest CO2 emitter, it breaks new records in renewables constantly. It can stop building new coal-fired power plants as soon as it can build enough HVDC lines from out West to where the power is needed. That will definitively give us Peak Carbon and start us down the long slide to Carbon Neutrality and Carbon Negativity, and thus to cooling Planet A, and steadily shrinking our budget of climate catastrophes.

Good morning for gnus pushers & thank you Jessiestaf for great & good roundup of all of gnus that fits the pixels.
China’s internal combustion car sales peaked in 2017 as electric vehicles took off
Electric cars have become incredibly popular in China. In 2020, one in eighteen new cars sold was electric. By 2024, this had increased to one in two.
This growth has pushed down sales of internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, which run mostly on petrol.
Sales of ICE cars peaked in 2017 and have declined since. The world reached peak ICE car sales just one year later.
The displacement of petrol cars with electric ones is vital in decarbonizing transport. The rise of electric vehicles in China expects oil demand to peak earlier than previously projected.

My local land trust (I am on the board) has been approached by someone who wants to donate more than 200 acres of coal rights here in SE Ohio. A little of three years ago someone else donated the remaining coal rights in our county. 20 million dollars of coal. Of course the idea is to lock up the coal forever. As I know we are the only land trust (or other non-profit) that is doing this. Maybe it will catch on.
Here is the coal story.
This is the story about our latest donation.
