Rochester police say a man is dead and an investigation is underway after a crash caused a fire in a parking garage at Rochester General Hospital.
According to the RPD, crews responded to a 911 call for a fire on the second level of the parking garage at around 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday. When they arrived, they found multiple damaged vehicles with one engulfed in flames.
Once firefighters were able to put the fire out, investigators discovered a deceased man inside the car. Police say the car caught fire after crashing into multiple parked vehicles. As many as 10 vehicles were damaged in the crash with around six being damaged by fire in addition to the one that caused the crash.

Right now, investigators are reviewing camera footage and speaking with witnesses in an attempt to determine what led up to the incident. They are also working to identify the deceased male.
Police say no one else was hurt, and firefighters say there was no damage to the hospital itself.
Rochester General Hospital is now diverting patients, visitors and staff away from the Portland Avenue garage where this took place and directing them to the Carter Street garage and some surface-level parking lots that have been opened up.
Hospital officials say regular operations were not impacted by this incident and all departments remain open.
