Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani sustained injuries in a road traffic accident in New Hampshire over the weekend, but is now recovering, according to his security detail and state police on Sunday.
According to Michael Ragusa, Giuliani’s head of security, his car was rear-ended at a “high speed” on Saturday evening. Giuliani himself, who previously served as Donald Trump’s personal attorney, was transported to the nearest trauma center; he was diagnosed with a thoracic spine fracture, multiple cuts and bruises, and injuries to his left arm and a lower limb.
Before the crash, a woman – a domestic violence victim – flagged him down; he immediately helped her, called emergency services, and remained at the scene until help arrived.
New Hampshire State Police said they are investigating a case related to the domestic violence report when Giuliani’s car was struck by another vehicle. Three people, including Giuliani, were transported by ambulance to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
In a separate conversation with reporters, Michael Ragusa said that Giuliani was “in a good mood” and “fully alert and conscious”.
“He was in a good mood.”
“fully alert and conscious.”
Giuliani’s son, Andrew Giuliani, posted on social media earlier today his thanks to everyone who expressed support after the news about his father: “Thank you to all the people who reached out after the news about my father. Your prayers mean the world. As a son, I can say that it is an honor to have a father whom I can call the strongest of anyone I have ever seen!”
For many years Giuliani was known as the “American mayor” during events in New York following the September 11 attacks. Since then he has faced a string of legal and financial challenges, including remarks about election fraud in Georgia and Arizona. Two former Georgia election-board employees also won a lawsuit for damages caused by false claims after the 2020 election.
In January, Giuliani reached an agreement that allowed him to retain his home and most of his assets. With an estimated net worth of around $10 million, he kept the real estate but did not receive full compensation of $150 million awarded in the case against him.
Giuliani continues to receive support from Donald Trump, who in August called him “the most prominent mayor in the history of New York” and announced that Andrew Giuliani would become the executive director of the White House Working Group on the FIFA World Cup 2026.
“Tell dad that we all love him.”
