WASHINGTON (TNND) — A spokesperson for Rudy Giuliani said the 81-year-old is recovering from fractured vertebrae and several other injuries following a car crash on Saturday in New Hampshire.
Giuliani was in the passenger seat of a rented Ford Bronco driven by his spokesperson, Ted Goodman, when their vehicle was struck from behind by a Honda HR-V late Saturday evening, New Hampshire State Police said in a statement. The Honda was driven by a 19-year-old woman.
The crash caused both vehicles to hit the highway median, according to troopers who witnessed the scene, and left both vehicles “heavily damaged." Goodman and the 19-year-old driver suffered “non-life-threatening injuries” and both were taken to hospitals to treat injuries, the agency added.
After the accident, Giuliani was taken to a trauma center nearby and was treated for injuries including a “fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg,” according to Ragusa.
“He sustained injuries but is in good spirits and recovering tremendously,” Ragusa said in a post on X, adding that the car accident was not a targeted attack.
Before the accident took place, Giuliani was “flagged down by a woman who was the victim of a domestic violence incident,” and he contacted the police for assistance on her behalf, according to Ragusa’s statement.
The subsequent crash was “random and unrelated” to the domestic violence incident, Ragusa said.
Giuliani was in a rental car and Ragusa clarified, “No one knew it was him.”
Andrew Giuliani, Rudy Giuliani’s son, also wrote a post on X thanking people who reached out to him over his father’s accident, writing, “Your prayers mean the world.”
Ragusa reassured people about Giuliani’s condition, saying, “He’ll be released in a few days and he’s doing great. Conscious, alert, strong. He’ll be back to business as usual this week."
