Ryan Blaney is ready to see if a new feature to the NASCAR Cup Series car will be successful. Ahead of the regular season finale at Daytona, Blaney reacted to the addition of flaps to the A-Post for NASCAR Cup Series cars at drafting tracks.
“We’ve learned about this for a long time, when they presented it to us last year,” Ryan Blaney said. “Just took them a while to implement it correctly. I’m happy we finally have something that they think will help.
“Would I have liked to have some laps? Yeah. I would just like to have laps at a speedway in general, like in practice, just to get your mind and your spotter in tune with the drafting side of it. I don’t think they’re going to flutter, but you never know. Big turbulence stuff, they could flutter. I have no clue. It might look like the Batmobile. I have no idea.”
Blaney continued, “If it helps keep the cars on the racetrack, I’m all for it. They get into these situations like [Ryan] Preece and Josh Berry. If they can keep the car from going over, do whatever you’ve got to do.”

Per Toby Christie of Sports Illustrated, the A-Post flaps will be tethered to the cars and were created on the heels of multiple flips at Daytona and Talladega over the last few seasons. The new feature will be used at those tracks and EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta.
Blaney enters Daytona in a good position. He earned pole for the race and is looking to finish the regular season strong as he enters the playoffs. Blaney clinched a spot in the postseason after winning the Nashville race earlier in the year. The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series champion has been a role lately, earning five top-10 finishes in his last five races. Last Saturday, Blaney finished third at Richmond, and it was the best finish at the track in his career.
“By far the most fun I’ve ever had at this place,” Blaney said after the Richmond race, per NBC Sports. “I always look at different ways to get around here every time I come back. I don’t think it’s a secret. I struggle really bad here. We work really hard to try to figure out how can we improve, like how can I improve, how can we work on the car to figure out what will mesh. Just a big effort by all the 12 boys, big group effort.”
