Mercy crews raced to the scene of the blaze which was reported at around 10:30am this morning.

The eastbound carriageway near Newhouse was shut off following the fire.
Traffic was also restricted westbound due to the thick plumes of smoke billowing from the fire.
Road users were urged to approach with caution and allow extra time for their journey as the congestion cleared.
Both lanes have since reopened.

No injuries were reported.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “The M8 has re-opened eastbound near Newhouse, following a vehicle fire which was reported around 10.30am on Thursday, 30 October, 2025.
“No injuries were reported.
“Motorists are thanked for their patience.”

An update posted to Traffic Scotland’s X (formerly Twitter) reads: “The M8 has fully REOPENED EASTBOUND following an earlier vehicle fire.
“Road users should still allow extra time for their journey as congestion clears
“Current delay approx. 24 mins.”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
