When lives are on the line and seconds matter, Tennessee Highway Patrol officers rely on more than just training. They count on a fleet of high-performance vehicles built for speed, strength and precision.
From muscle cars that chase down reckless drivers to rugged trucks that tackle tough terrain, the THP has a formidable lineup.
One of the most recent Tennessee Highway Patrol fleet additions is the Ford Mustang, according to a post from the official THP Facebook account. The Mustang is designed to help troopers "stop reckless driving, enforce speed laws, and respond when lives are on the line," the post states.

The Ford Mustang is an iconic American-made muscle car. It is Ford's longest running nameplate, and has become synonymous with power and performance over the years.
The 2025 Ford Mustang comes in six trims and starts at $31,920 with the EcoBoost Fastback base model. It comes standard with a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine EcoBoost engine that produces a mighty 315 horsepower.
Ford also offers a 5.0-liter V8 option that produces up to 500 horsepower (Dark Horse models). The social media post didn't specify which trim was added to the Tennessee Highway Patrol's fleet, but every Mustang can produce enough giddyup to satisfy the needs of troopers.
Ford's Police Interceptor Hybrid was added to the fleet in 2020, according to the Tennessee Department of General Services. The Police Interceptor Hybrid has two powertrain options tuned for pursuit driving: a 3.3-liter six-cylinder hybrid powertrain that produces 318 horsepower and an available 3.0-liter six-cylinder EcoBoost powertrain that produces 400 horsepower. Both versions utilize electric motors for added power and improved efficiency.
The Ford Police Interceptor is a variant of the Ford Explorer specifically designed for law enforcement. It comes standard with several advanced driver-assistance and safety features including automatic emergency braking and forward-collison warning.
Ford's Police Interceptor is designed with safety in mind. It passed Ford's 75-mile per hour rear-impact crash-test. The Interceptor also includes Police Permiter Alert, a feature that uses blind-spot information system sensors for 270-degree monitoring outside of the SUV.
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is part of the THP's fleet, according to Tennessee's Department of Safety & Homeland Security. Chevy's Silverado is a popular full-size pickup truck known for its durability, towing capacity, and many powertrain options.
Chevrolet's Silverado 1500 uses a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to produce 310 horsepower. Its diesel powertrain option makes 277 horsepower. The Silverado 1500's most powerful engine options are a 5.3-liter EcoTec V8 that produces 355 horsepower and a 6.2-liter V8 that produces 420 horsepower.
The Silverado 1500 comes in several trims including some off-road variants. It's great for the Tennessee Highway Patrol because it's capable of quick acceleration and has solid towing and hauling capacity.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has several capable vehicles in its fleet when it comes to speed, safety, and durability. Whether its a quick muscle car like the Ford Mustang or a powerful full-size pickup truck like the Chevy Silverado 1500, the THP has vehicles equipped for all kinds of situations.
