Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders gave a car to a woman in need, even after she admitted she was an Eagles fan, not a Browns fan.
Sanders worked with a local car dealership to give away a vehicle to someone in need. Applicants had to write an essay detailing why they or someone they knew deserved to have the car.
Torri Wright of Avon, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, was selected as the winner thanks to an essay her daughter wrote detailing the sacrifices her mother made for their family.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Sanders called Wright on Monday, telling her that she won. A tearful Wright explained that the engine in her car had failed and she had to walk and use ride-sharing services to get around.
The next day, Wright went to the dealership to pick up the vehicle. Another video showed the interaction when she met Sanders at the dealership. Wright hugged Sanders and thanked him. She also admitted that she was not a Browns fan but was happy that Sanders was on the team.
“I’m an Eagles fan but I want to see Shedeur soar,” Wright said.
Sanders, the Browns’ fifth-round draft selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, has been the backup quarterback since the team traded veteran Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals in October. A back injury forced Sanders to miss the Browns’ Oct. 26 game against the New England Patriots, but the team had a bye week and Sanders returned Sunday.
Sanders told Fox 8 that he was happy the car, a black Hyundai Elantra, would make things easier for Wright.
“Reading her message and reading everything that she said, I understand how hard a mom works,” Sanders said. “It was important. … It was heartfelt. We wanted to give the car away to someone that was truly in need of it.”
