A man died from his injuries after he was shot and then crashed his car into another person as well as a police vehicle in Trenton, New Jersey, investigators said.
The incident unfolded on Friday, Aug. 29, around 11:25 p.m. Trenton police officers were patrolling North Olden and Ohio avenues when there was a report of a shooting in the area. As the officers responded to the scene, their police vehicle was struck by another car. The driver, 41-year-old Andrew Coates of Trenton, had lost control of the car after being shot, investigators said.

Coates also struck a civilian in the area, police said.
Coates was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.
The civilian who was hit by Coates’ car, two Trenton police officers and another man who had been shot in the leg, were all taken to the hospital. The officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and the second shooting victim was placed in stable condition, investigators said. Police have not released the condition of the other man who was struck by Coates’ vehicle.
Police also said two empty vehicles and a home on Indiana Avenue were struck by gunfire. No one inside the home was hurt.
No arrests have been made and police have not released information on any suspects.
