ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – An officer with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department was killed in a crash while he was on his way to work Tuesday, the department said.
District 4 officer Malik Baker was killed in a crash on I-55 in Illinois, police say. He had worked for SLMPD for nearly four years.
According to Illinois State Police, the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. near milepost 4 on I-55.
Baker was driving southwest in his Toyota behind a Ford with a trailer when he struck the back of the trailer.
He was pronounced dead on scene, and the other driver, a 57-year-old from Forsyth, Mo., was taken to the hospital with injuries.
