TOPICS:
Part of southbound Interstate 5 was closed in Everett Wednesday morning after a deadly crash.
The Washington State Department of Transportation first reported the incident at around 2:15 am.
Initially, Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Kelsey Harding said a motorcycle and a car collided near the Everett Mall. Later Wednesday, a WSP crash report said the vehicles involved were a commercial truck and a Vespa scooter.

However, the Vespa was not hit by the truck. According to the report, the unoccupied Vespa was on the left shoulder, and its rider, a 63-year-old Everett man, was in the third lane when he was struck by the truck.
The man died at the scene.
It is not known why the scooter rider was in the road.
The HOV lane and two left lanes were blocked for several hours while detectives investigated.
Shortly before 7 a.m., traffic was backed up at least 5 miles, approaching US 2.
All lanes reopened around 7:20 a.m.
