Seattle police release new video of a stolen car leaping a drawbridge before the driver vanished
Most folks aren’t criminals, but that doesn’t stop them from at least considering how they might escape a police chase. One way we often see it on TV or in movies is by daring maneuvers, rally-style drifting, or even jumping a bridge. That last method is exactly how one person, yet to be found by police, managed to escape while driving a stolen car in Seattle recently.
Initially, officers tried to stop the Audi around 12:20 p.m. when they spotted a stolen license plate on the car around 10th Ave E and East Boston St. The driver refused to pull over and instead decided to flee the scene. Authorities lost a visual but quickly found the car again.
Dashcam Drama
Police from the Emerald City released new dashcam footage of the end of the chase. It shows both the jump and the moments leading up to it on September 17. The driver navigated quite a bit of traffic at mostly low to mid-level speeds and ultimately found themselves at the University Bridge. As they approached, the safety arms were down, and the bridge was lowering but not fully connected.

Video from both sides of the bridge captured the moment when the person behind the wheel of the Audi SUV broke through the safety barrier and gunned it over the gap. The car goes airborne briefly, bounces on the far side of the bridge, and continues north.
The car was later found abandoned near Pasadena Place East in the University District with significant damage, including a gaping hole in the windshield. Despite an extensive search, the driver was nowhere to be found.
A Vanishing Act
Police haven’t said whether or not there was anyone else in the vehicle when the stunt happened. This isn’t even the first time a drawbridge has made news despite it being a wildly dangerous tactic. Seattle police hope that anyone with information about the suspect will contact them.
