A MAN has been arrested after a “stolen” car smashed through the barriers at a Wirral railway crossing.
At around 10.15am this morning (Monday, November 24), police received a report that a suspected stolen car was being driven in Moreton.
The driver failed to stop for officers and continued to speed in an “extremely dangerous manner”, police said.

Following a police chase, damage was caused to barriers at the railway crossing at Leasowe railway station on Reeds Lane.
During the pursuit, a tactical stop was carried out on Avondale Avenue in Moreton and a man was detained after trying to run away.

Officers worked with Merseyrail staff to ensure there was no danger to road or rail users.
The man has been taken into police custody to be questioned about the incident.

Live traffic and travel tracker, INRIX, states: “Reeds Lane, both ways closed, slow traffic due to accident, a vehicle striking the level crossing involved from Rossall Court to Kingsmead Road.”
Posting on social media platform, X, Merseyrail said: “Reeds Lane is currently closed to traffic in both directions due to damage to the level crossing barriers.
“Due to a road vehicle colliding with level crossing barriers at Leasowe the West Kirby line is disrupted and services are running delayed.”
Also posting on X, an Arriva North West spokesperson said: “Due to a police incident at Reeds Lane, Leasowe Station, services 413 & 414 will divert via Pasture Road, Leasowe Road, and Reeds Lane, resuming at Birkett Avenue in both directions, omitting a section of Reeds Lane and Hoylake Road. Delays are possible, please allow extra time for your journey.”
