The new Across SUV rides on Suzuki’s in-house Heartect platform and is available with both gasoline and hybrid powertrain options
Suzuki maintains a close partnership with Toyota, particularly when it comes to rebadging each other’s models across various global markets. A clear example is the European-market Suzuki Across, which is essentially a reworked Toyota RAV4, more specifically based on the Chinese-spec Wildlander
Interestingly, Suzuki has just revealed a different model bearing the same Across name, but this one breaks away from any ties to Toyota.
Review: Suzuki Across PHEV Is The Neglected RAV4 Twin Blessed With All The Virtues Of The Original
The SUV in question is the newly introduced Suzuki Across for the Seychelles, a scenic island nation off the coast of East Africa. If it looks oddly familiar, that’s because it’s essentially a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Victoris, which made its debut in India back in September 2025.
Visually, the Across is a mirror image of the Victoris, aside from the branding on the tailgate. The most notable difference lies inside the cabin, where the steering wheel has been repositioned.
Suzuki has global ambitions for the Indian-built Victoris, so the introduction of a left-hand-drive version for export markets comes as little surprise.
As with its Indian counterpart, the Across measures 4,360 mm (171.7 inches) in length and rides on a 2,600 mm (102.4 inches) wheelbase. That makes it notably shorter than the RAV4-based Across, which stretches to 4,635 mm (182.5 inches) and sits on a longer 2,690 mm (105.9-inch) wheelbase.

It’s no secret that the Victoris and the Across are both underpinned by Suzuki’s Heartect platform, also used in the Grand Vitara. After all, the same platform is used across (pun-intended) Suzuki’s entire own-developed lineup, including the similarly-sized Vitara and S-Cross SUVs.
Powertrain Options
In Seychelles, the Across is currently offered with a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter petrol engine producing 102 hp (76 kW / 103 PS) and 137 Nm (101 lb-ft) of torque. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual and a six-speed automatic gearbox, with the option of pairing the latter to a 4WD system.
A “hybrid” badge spotted in the official press photos hints at the arrival of the same electrified setup found in the Indian-spec Victoris. That version combines a 1.5-liter petrol engine with a single electric motor for a total output of 114 hp (85 kW / 116 PS).
The self-charging hybrid setup is combined with Suzuki’s AllGrip Select AWD system.
Could it Reach Europe?
Suzuki hasn’t revealed any plans for the RAV4-based Across in the European or UK markets. However, the company has confirmed that the Victoris will be exported to over 100 countries and regions around the world.
Reading between the lines, a Victoris-based Across looks like a realistic candidate for Europe, particularly in hybrid form and possibly under a new name. It could line up as a competitor to the affordable Dacia Bigster, likely arriving at a noticeably lower price than the outgoing Toyota-derived version, which never really gained traction in the market.
